April 2011
March has been a fickle month but the end of the month has produced some great flying opportunities. Here's a photo from a site that we don't hear a lot of - Burney Fell in the South Lakes. Burney lies on the ridge between the Duddon and Levens estuaries. Roy Richards took this picture of Ian Ferguson flying his Mantra at Burney with the Duddon estuary and Black Combe in the background.

February seems to have been a month of strong winds or low cloud. February 16 was one of the best days with a number of Cumbrian sites being flown. Here John May prepares to launch from the Coniston Old Man summit ridge. John reports that they "had a beautiful , but rather chilly , late afternoon flight on Coniston Old Man. The cloud cleared and we took off from the easterly take off and had about 1 1/2 hours of lovely soaring before landing in the Coniston School playing field on the cusp of darkness. A beautiful first flight of the season." Photo by Vincent Canova

No submissions for this month! December 2010 has seen some magnificent winter weather but it's been very cold. This photo was taken on 31 December 2008 by Jill Westmacott. Ian Henderson attempts to launch in slightly katabatic air on Barkin Fell. The lesson for the day was that launching in slightly katabatic air might not be a good idea!

John Hamlett took this photo of Kitt Rudd on Blease Fell on Friday 19 November. The view looks south down St Johns in the Vale with Helvellyn on the left. John reports that it was "a stunning day but the wind was just too light to stay airborne. A good opportunity for me to practice my alpine launch!"

September started with an excellent period of flying. As the month progressed, conditions have deteriorated although good flying has been had. Here, Dave Ashcroft took this photo of Steve Etherington before they set off on an XC up the Ennerdale valley to Great Gable and the Screes on 25 September. Dave reports on cracking conditions!

September 2010
August followed July with poor weather. However, by the middle of the month, things had improved dramatically with Sunday 15 August being an excellent day. Here Ben Keayes prepares to launch on Clough Head and fly to Ings between Kendal & Windermere. A number of pilots made it down the Helvellyn ridge with paraglider pilots taking over the 555 bus back over Dunmail Raise!

August 2010
No photos submitted this month perhaps reflecting the rubbish weather! Its been a month of strong winds and rain - quite a contrast to June. This month's picture is Chris Field flying Whitestones in August 2008. The view is looking south and it looks like we grabbed an evening's opportunity

The downside to flying in the Lakes! Participants in this year's Lakes Charity Classic B compitition make the long grind up Jenkin Hill on a hot Friday 4 June. The flying was quite lively but there were some big thermals around
