Latrigg
North Lakes - North of Keswick
SW - NW + Nil Wind
Overview
A grassy hill which rises up from the north of Keswick.
Access same as Jenkin Hill/Skiddaw.
The SW slope is small and limited,
Works best in a NW.
Plenty of room for ground handling in a NW.
Nice for a summer evening soar.

Important!
Limited to a max of 10 pilots in the air at any time.
The club strongly recommends the use of a radio on this site (club frequency 143.700).
Local pilot rep: Phil Hewitson 07900 920232
Access
Car park OS grid ref: NY280253
Getting There
From the roundabout north of Keswick on the A66, take the northern exit A591 to Carlisle.
Immediately on leaving the rundabout, take the side road on the right (a caravan park entrance is on the right).
Follow this road for around one and a half miles, where you will see another minor road trailing in sharply from the right, Gale Road.
This takes you up to the Gale Road car park for walkers climbing Skiddaw.
If the weather is good for walking, parking at the Gale Road can be difficult or impossible and it is probably easier to leave your car here by the roundabout and walk up.
Getting to takeoff
From the top of the car park go through the gate and turn right.
Latrigg is the rise in front. Go to the south or western side to find the best site for takeoff for the conditions.
Permission to use site
landing field permission from John and Edith at Ormathwaite farm
Flying
Hazards
Can be turbulent if the wind turns N of NW, when it comes over Skiddaw/Little Man
Landing Areas
Good top landing or slope landing area on the fell.
The official landing field for which we have permission is linked above.
If there is stock in the field but a neighbouring field is empty, use that instead.
If all the fields have stock in then please ask John at Ormathwaite Farm, he is very friendly and will usually give permission to land amongst the sheep, but this is not guaranteed, especially at lambing time.
Flying
A pleasant and attractive site with an easy walk to take off.
Most of the time however it does not work particularly well without an appreciable breeze.
Sea breeze usually kills it.
Other local sites offer much better soaring possibilities.
XC potential
Better than you'd think for a hill of this size. The site record is a flight to Hexham.
