CSC Coaching
Fly safely
Coaching Sessions – on-the-hill coaching takes place on the first weekend of each month, weather permitting. We publish details through our members' Telegram group.

Our Approach
Our coaching programme exists to help new pilots fly safely and confidently in the fells. We focus on:
-
Building the skills needed to fly safely in a mountain environment
-
Helping pilots make informed flying decisions
-
Supporting Club Pilots to complete BHPA tasks to achieve a Pilot rating
-
Connecting visiting and low-airtime pilots with club coaches and fellow members
All coaches are volunteers who give up their own flying time to help others – please respect that each coach decides what they are willing to coach.
Who Is It For?
Coaching is open to any pilot, though it's primarily aimed at recently qualified CP-level pilots and those new to Cumbria. Please bring your BHPA membership card with you.
On-the-hill Coaching
Coaching takes three forms:
-
Coaching Groups — Informal, drop-in sessions for low-airtime pilots and those new to the area. Typically held on weekends between April and September. Advance notice given via our members’ Telegram group.
-
One-to-One Coaching — Available to pilots of all abilities. Contact a club coach directly to arrange — don't wait to be approached! Newly qualified pilots can also join our 'Redtails' Telegram group (contact us to join).
-
Ad-hoc Coaching — Feel free to approach any coach on the hill at any time.
Theory Sessions
Winter classroom sessions cover flying theory and BHPA exam preparation. All are welcome – watch for notifications via our members’ Telegram group in the autumn.
