Carrock Fell
North East Lakes - East of Blencathra
NE - E + Nil Wind
Whole site closed due to Peregrine nesting April, May & June
Overview
A large site that is renowned for its lighter winds when everywhere else is blown out.
The site works really well and, excluding top landing, is a good introduction to the big sites of the Lake District.

Important!
If flying toward Souther note there is a permanent exclusion zone around Undercrag Farm (500M radius up to 1500ft ASL). See site map for extent and details.
The site will be closed for the whole of April, May and June to avoid disturbing the nesting Peregrines.
If you find you are disturbing the peregrines at any other time please vacate the site immediately.
Competitions or other events must not be based at, or run from, this site without an LDNPA licence.

Getting There
Take the main A66 Keswick to Penrith road. If travelling from Keswick, take the left turn onto the Mungrisedale road. If travelling from Penrith, take the right turn onto the Mungrisedale Road having passed the turning onto the A5091 to Dockray.
Follow the minor road through the small hamlets of Mungrisedale and Mosedale.
Two kilometres beyond Mosedale the road forks at a triangular patch of land.
The parking area is off the left hand side of the road at this fork.
Please be considerate of others and park fairly close together.
Getting to takeoff
From the parking area, walk straight ahead to the fell crossing an area of boggy ground to reach the foot of the fell.
There are a few sheep tracks that can be followed as you pick your way across the, often steep, broken ground.

Hazards
Winds at the site can be appreciably stronger over the top; keep well forward if in doubt.
Beware of rocks when slope landing.
The site can become turbulent if the wind goes off to the south of east. If getting blown back then track off to the north.
Take Off
Steep take off with rocks and boulders which increase with height, so be selective in choosing where to launch.
Landing Areas
Watch out for cars encroaching on the landing field.
Flying
The site can be susceptible to wave as with all the east facing sites in this region.
XC potential
From this site the coast at Barrow has been reached, both by paraglider and hang-glider, as well as routes towards Cockermouth to the west.
The site has produced conditions for large triangles over the flat land out front.
