Mike Harper took his first ever flying photo on Thursday 26 August while flying on Cat Bells. Not bad for a beginner! The lake is Derwent Water with Keswick behind. Skiddaw is behind the glider and Blencathra is to the right
Dave Ashcroft broke off from reroofing his house on Sunday 15 August to organise a XC coaching day on Clough Head. He picked an excellent day and a large number of pilots made it down the Helvellyn ridge run. Here Dave briefs the group. Photo by Tim Oliver
Here Tim climbs up above Clough Head. Cloudbase was around 4500 to 5000ft and thermals took you all the way there! Photo by Tim Oliver

It was the sort of day when you could say to yourself "Now I reckon there's going to be a big fat thermal over the summit plateau" - and sure enough, there was! Helvellyn from the north at 4000ft (QNH) Photo by Ian Henderson
Colin de Gasperi flies hang gliders and is based in the South Western Lakes. Colin says that the photo was "Taken Sunday 22nd August at Black Combe West. Although Bud and I had flown a number of times during the afternoon, it was mainly blue and marginal. I was on my way to the bottom landing field at the end of the day when a few clouds began to appear and I was gifted with what must have been one of the last thermals of the day. It took me to about 1500' above the south end take off. After flying around the clouds for a while I was able to glide out over the coast with hardly any sink on the way, then back to land at Whitbeck by which time the sky was clear blue again."
Ward Fallowfield and Dave Robinson went flying on 22 August at Hard Knott pass. This is a magnificent place to fly as you can look down the Eskdale valley to the west and look up into Upper Eskdale to the north. Photos by Vicky Blanco
The Roman fort can be seen in the middle right of the picture. It's located about half way up the pass
